Dollar Dreams Fading As US Deports Many
Today, I attended Foreign Ministry meeting in Parliament. There I came to know that America is sending back 7.25 lakh Indians by calling them illegal. These people have been living there for years. Bengaluru: As a US military plane touched down the Chandigarh airport carrying 104 illegal Indian immigrants, the great American dream has a reality check.
Under Trump administration, it’s the first such deportation of Indians from the North American country with analysts saying many will follow in the coming months. The immigrants including 79 men and 25 women, who have been deported through a C-17 US military aircraft from Texas, hailed from States like Punjab, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra and others.
Such deportation, which was the major poll plank of Doland Trump, has sparked debate among political parties. Rajeev Shukla, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and BCCI vice-president, claimed that the US is going to deport 7.25 lakh Indian nationals. According to him, so many Indians’ lives are going to be severely impacted owing to the action of the new US administration.

US administration has begun strict enforcement of its illegal immigrant policies after Donald Trump’s taking oath last month. Trump has threatened countries like Canada, Mexico with imposition of tariff on their goods if these nations don’t take strict action over border security and drug movement.
In response, Mexico has agreed to reinforce its northern border with 10,000 National Guard members to check illegal migration to US through its border apart from fighting drug trafficking. Similarly, Canada will also ramp up its police force to check illegal trafficking of people into the US.
